**And Not Forgetting George Biswas...**
 
Debabrata Biswas was born in Kishoreganj, Mymensing (now Bangladesh) on 22nd August 1911.  His grandfather Kalikishore became a Bramho and had to leave Kishoreganj under pressure.

 After passing his Matriculation in 1927, Debabrata moved to Calcutta for higher studies and did his M.A. in Economics from Calcutta University in 1933.  He joined an insurance company and retired from the Life Insurance Corporation in 1971.

 Debabratas first record, a Rabindrasangeet with Kanak Das, was out in 1938.  Thereafter, he did nearly 300 Rabindrasangeet recordings.  Following bitter differences of opinion with the copyright owners (Viswa-Bharati) he suffered a lot and failed to record any Rabindrasangeet from 1971, i.e. a decade before his death.

 His last official recording is titled, Who are they who did not allow me to sing?  Why have I failed to sing any more?  He wrote the lyric of this album himself.  A bachelor, Debabrata Biswas was popularly known as George Biswas.  Before his death on 18th August 1980, he wrote his memoirs and a book on his visits to China.

Proves the idea that to have an inflated ego is not always harmful to creativity. Ought to be redeemed for some sublime acting in such films as Pushpak, Sadma and Sagara Sangamam 

Amir Khan

A curious phenomenon. Acts in sensible commercial Hindi movies. Chooses no-nonsense,centrist positions. Most successful in mildly conservative roles--Ajay Rathore in Sarfarosh, Bhuvan in Lagaan, and Akash Malhotra in Dil Chahta Hai are cases in point, not to mention the character of Dilnawaz in 1942:Earth. But also wonderful in more straightforward roles, such as the ones in Rangeela or in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar.
